New
low-cost wireless broadband solutions
.......................................................................................................................................................................................
"TRANS-INNOVATION
Sdn Bhd is promoting a new range of last-mile wireless broadband
solutions. The company claims its Motorola Canopy is 30 per
cent cheaper than similar solution available.
Canopy
is based on Motorola's proprietary technology that supports
unlicensed spectrums of 2.4 gigahertz, 5GHz and 5.7GHz. For
the local market, however, only equipment based on 2.4GHz
and 5.7GHz are available.
"There
are pros and consfor using proprietary technology. In this
case, the pro is there is no interference with other radio
solutions that run on a similar frequency." said Trans-Innovation's
business development director Santhana Vasan.
Canopy
comes with a comprehensive range of wireless broadband products
that include components like access points, backhaul module
and subscriber module.
Each
access point supports a radius of 60 degrees, so a maximum
of six access points can be installed per tower to cover 360
degrees, Each access point works within line-of-sight of up
to 55 kilometres. One cluster of six access points supports
1,200 subscribers.
With
throughput of 10 to 20 megabits per second, Canopy is capable
of delivering 4Mbps downlike and 1.5Mbps uplink per accesspoint,
Santhana said.
Another
feature of Canopy is its capability to have several clusters
in one area with similar fraquency without interference. This
exists in a dense Canopy environment where time division duplexing
technology us used to eliminate interference among the radio
applications.
Furthermore, all feature upgrades are free and done wirelessly.
"Canopy is being used in countries with harsh weather conditions.
We are targeting the product at companies with warehousing
sites, housing developers and the government sector," Santhana
said.
Currently,
two housing sites in Shah Alam are equipped with Canopy, and
several companies in the Klang Valley are using the system,
he added.
Trans-Innovation
is aiming for 3,000 new subscriber modules installed by year-end,
Santhana said, adding that the company plans to work with
channel partners to achieve this goal"
